Q: Is this a race or a ride?

A: Both! You can hammer against the competition or you ride at your own pace.

Q: Can I pre-ride / scout the course
A: Yes, but please be considerate and pickup all your trash. Scouting the course via vehicle is NOT recommended.

Q: What kind of bike is best suited for Goodnight’s Grind?
A: A gravel bike would be best, but a mountain bike will work as well. Not suitable for a road bike.

Q: Can we use aerobars/TT bars?
A: No, aerobars are NOT permitted. We said this in the rules :)

Q: What is the best tire for the course?
A: We recommend a good all-around tire 40c+

Q: Will there be support on the course?
A: Yes. In addition to the 3 stocked rest stops, there will be limited sag wagons.

Please no personal support vehicles on the course.

Q: Are there time cut-offs?
A: Yes, for the Grande: 2:00pm Rest stop#3, 3:30pm JA Ranch Inbound, 5:00pm Rest stop 1, 6:30pm Finish.

Q: Will there be wildlife on the route?
A: Yes, but if you leave them alone, they’ll leave you alone.

Q: What kind of roads are these?
A: These are county roads & open to traffic. Please obey all regular traffic laws.

Q: Which Grind routes will be chip timed?
A: All of them.

Q: Do any of the routes go by Charles Goodnight’s grave?
A: No.

Q: Will we be able to tour the JA Ranch Headquarters?
A: No. The Ranch Headquarters is private property.

Q: Where Is the Original Charles Goodnight Ranch House?
A: .1 mile from the start/finish.

Q: Can we tour the Original Charles Goodnight Ranch House?
A: Yes. Check with the Ranch House about tours.

Q: When will the podium presentations occur?
A: As soon as the first 3 male & female finishers in each Grind Distance finish.

Q: Where do the proceeds from Goodnight’s Grind go?
A: 100% of the proceeds are used to build and maintain local trails

● Participants must wear a helmet while operating their bicycle.

● Participants must be respectful to event staff, fellow participants, and the property.

● ABSOLUTELY no littering on the course, trash receptacles are provided at the aid stations.

● Ebikes are only permitted on the short course and are not eligible for awards.

● Participants are responsible for themselves throughout the duration of the event. This includes navigation, traffic management, and wildlife interactions.

● Participants must pass over the timing mats at finish of the event.

● Participant (BIKE) “Number Plates” MUST be affixed to the front of the handlebars.

● Participant “Number Plates” MUST NOT be bent, folded, wrapped around the head tube, or in any other position than flat against the handle bars. Improper attachment of the race plate will cause timing chips not to register.

● Aerobars, TT Bars and similar are NOT permitted.

● Riders MUST collect a bracelet at the turn around.

● DNFs, Drops and course changes MUST be reported to an event official.

● Drafting on another event participant is allowed. Drafting on a non-participant, or on a motorized vehicle will result in disqualification.

● Participants must remain within the primary boundaries of the roadway at all times.

● Support Crews, friends, and family members are NOT allowed on the course.

● All course change requests must be made before the event begins.

● Challenges to event results must be reported to the Race Director and or Timing. The protest period ends 5 minutes before the award presentation.

● Cut off times are strictly enforced for rider safety.

● The Race Director’s decisions are final.

● Have a GREAT time!
